JULY 2008
18.07.08: ANGUS TOP TEN - Unfortunately, our team lost out to Broughty in the quarter finals of this year's Angus Top Ten. The match was tied on 4 points each but Broughty won on shots. Commiserations to the lads, but congratulations on another good run in this tournament.
19.07.08: NOMINATED PAIRS FINAL – Last night saw the final of this year's premier Craigie pairs tournament, contested between Alan 'Prez' Brown & David Briggs versus Craig Stewart & Kevin Brunton. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't kind and a light drizzle was falling as the seventeen end match commenced. The start of the match was close, with a single being scored in each of the first four ends and Kevin & Craig led 3-1. Craig & Kevin then scored singles at the next three ends to extend their lead to 6-1 after seven ends. After ten ends David & Alan had reduced their arrears slightly and the score stood at 7-3. Kevin & Craig then scored a double and a single to increase their lead to 10-3 after 12 ends. Another two shots were added to the lead (12-3), before a bizzare turn of events in the fourteenth end where Kevin & Craig chose to play with weight twice, unluckily took out their own bowls and Alan & David scored seven shots to reduce their arrears to just two shots at 12-10. David & Alan then scored another four shots and a single to, lead 15-12 with one end to play. Kevin & Craig scored a single in the last end but Alan & David finished 15-13 winners after a truly remarkable turn-around in a tremendous match. Congratulations to David & Alan and commiserations to Kevin & Craig.
18.07.08: ANGUS TOP TEN - The team recorded a great 8-0 win with a clean sweep of all four matches away at Fairfield last night to move into the quarter finals of the Angus Top Ten. Our quarter final tie is a home match against Broughty to be played next week on Thursday 24th July. Let's hope a big crowd is out to cheer on the lads as they try to progress to the semi-finals.
15.07.08: ALLAN PAIRS – The draw has been made for this year's Allan Pairs and the sheet is now up in the club on the Match Secretary's board. Any members who have indicated that they wish to play in this competition should check who their partner is and when their first match is now!
15.07.08: NOMINATED PAIRS – Last night saw the semi-finals played and our teams in this year's pairs final are Alan 'Prez' Brown & David Briggs and Craig Stewart & Kevin Brunton. Both semi-finals were keenly contested affairs with the lead changing several times in each match. After 14 ends both matches we evenly balanced and some great bowling from our finalists in the last three ends saw them through. The final is scheduled for this coming Friday, 18th July at 6.30. Hopefully there will be a large crowd there to see what should be a great match. Your webmaster will be there to bring you a full report and some photos from the final. Good luck to both teams.
11.07.08: CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL – This year's final was contested between Ian Ringsell and Ron Collie on Friday night. Thankfully, as the time for the match drew near the afternnoon's rain relented and we had sunny conditions for the start, athough no doubt the green was heavier than usual for the players. Ian drew first blood in the first end, scoring a single. Ian scored again in the second end, counting two to lead 3-0, Ian then continued his great start to the match, scoring another two shots to lead 5-0. The next few ends were shared and the score was 8-2 in Ian's favour. Ron fought back and after ten ends the score stood at 9-5, but then Ian surged on again to lead 14-5. Ron then fought back again to make the score 14-12. He continued his fightback and, although Ian scored two shots in the eighteenth end, after nineteen ends the score was close at 16-15 in Ian's favour. Shots were traded for the next two ends and the score stood at 18-17 for Ian, but then Ian scored three to take the prestigious Craigie Singles title for the first time, 21-17. A great final with lots of quality bowls from both players - many congratulations to Ian and commiserations to Ron.
09.07.08: ANGUS TOP TEN - The team made a great start to this year's Top Ten knockout tournament with a 6-2 victory last night in our away match against Barnhill. Our reward is another away match against Fairfield in the next round. This match is scheduled for Thursday 17th July at 6.30pm. Here's hoping the team can produce another good performance and advance to the quarter finals.
08.07.08: ANGUS CHAMPS: 3 CRAIGIE WINS! – Craigie's 2008 season in external competitions has moved into overdrive and gone stratospheric!!! I'm pleased to be able to bring you tremendous and indeed historic news from the finals of the Angus Championships, held at Brechin BC last Thursday and Friday. On Thursday night Craig Stewart continued his amazing run with victory in the Junior Singles, recording a resounding 21-12 victory over David McGill of Monifieth. This excellent win adds to Craig's Scottish District 4 Junior Singles title, which he won at Broughty BC last month. Moving on to Friday, in the main Singles final John Wright continued his own great run of results with an equally convincing 21-11 victory over Mike Stewart from Abbey. This result rounds off a superb performance from John in his first singles competition representing Craigie after his Falconer win last season. Last, but not least, our rink of Alex Sherman, Angus Cossans, Alan 'Prez' Brown and Tony Hume won the Fours title in an exciting 17-16 extra-end encounter with the rink from host club Brechin (Doug Paton, Dennis Napier, Eddie Baillie & Richard Grant). That result capped a marvellous two nights of bowling for Craigie and is easily our best ever showing in the Angus Championships. Never before have we won three Angus titles in the same year, indeed before last week we'd only won six Angus Championships in club history and we've now won five since 2004 – as a bowling force, Craigie is definitely on the up! With one Scottish District and three Angus wins, this season can already be ranked along side, if not above, our great season in 2004 when we won two Scottish District and one Angus title. Let's hope we can continue this rich vein of form in the upcoming Angus Top Ten tournament and the City of Dundee Championships. All in all a tremendous achievement by all concerned and hearty congratulations go out to all our winners. Well done lads!
08.07.08: CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP – After some excellent quarter final matches, the semi-final line up for the championship is as follows:

Good luck to all four remaining players for their matches this week.
08.07.08: NOMINATED PAIRS – We've now reached the 'business end' of our most prized pairs competition with the semi-final line up decided last night. These semi-final matches are scheduled to be played on Monday evening, with the final to be played next week, on Friday 18th July. As with the Championship final, your webmaster will be in attendance to bring you news of the final and also some photos. Good luck to all the teams for their respective matches. The semi-final line up is as follows:
Alan Brown & David Briggs v Frank Moore & Gary Anderson
Jim Philip & George Gray v Craig Stewart & Kevin Brunton02.07.08: ANGUS CHAMPIONSHIPS – Our successful 2008 championships continue… After last weeks quarter final wins, our 3 remaining entrants again won through their semi-finals last night. In the singles John Wright won 21-7, whilst Craig Stewart was a 21-16 victor in the junior singles. Our rink, consisting of Alex Sherman, Angus Cossans, Alan Brown & Tony Hume, also won handsomely, scoring a 24-7 win in their semi-final. The junior singles final is played tomorrow night at Brechin BC and the singles and fours will be at the same green on Friday. I understand that there may be a supporter's bus travelling from the club on Friday – anyone interested in going along to support our lads should get their name down now. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, your webmaster will not be able to attend either night's finals so I'd appreciate if one of our supporters could take a camera along and send me some pics for inclusion on the website. Finally, good luck to all our finalists – here's hoping for some more silverware coming to Craigie this week!
