MARCH

25.3.04 ANDREW HAMILTON TROPHY - We will be hosting another City of Dundee match in the SBA Cities & Counties Championship this year, on 19th June 2004, against Aberdeen & Kincardine. After the resounding success of the match we hosted last year, against Buchan, we will be looking to provide our usual superb facilities for the bowlers, and officials. As last year, it will be much appreciated if as many members as possible can make themselves available for scoreboard, rink marker & general helping duties on the day - let's make it another great day for the City of Dundee BA, and the club!

27.3.04 NEW RULES - I've found a link to the law changes on the English Bowling Umpires Association website - if it's free for all to see on there we can't be breaking any rules!

28.3.04 FIXTURES 2004 - Please see the fixtures page for the most up to date list of our games & tournament deadlines for season 2004 - it's all here, NOW!!! (Updated 20/4/04)

APRIL

9.4.04 NEW BAR INSTALLATION - The new bar is finished (at last!!!) - there has been lots of other decorating improvements too - the club's looking better than ever (Special thanks must go to Sid Clarke, Jim Simpson, and all others who've given up their valuable time to make the club look great - well done guys - it's very much appreciated by all the members...). The official opening night was a great success - there are some photos on the Photos Page...

12.4.04 NAMES SHEETS - The sheets for the Nominated Pairs, Hunter Cup & Angus League are up in the club. All members wishing to be considered for these competitions should get their names down now!

12.4.04 CLUB COMPETITIONS - The draws for the Club Championship, Duncan Triples & Under 35's have been done and can be viewed on the 'Bowls Page'. Check out who you've been drawn against...

18.4.04 WE'RE BACK! - I'm sure some of you may have been wondering where the site has been - unfortunately, our hosts had a major blow out of their main server. This has taken 3 weeks to fix properly, but now we're back - please accept my apologies for the extended downtime, but I'm sure you can understand that this was outwith my control. I'm going to put a backup system in place should this ever occur again, but hopefully this won't be neccesary... Anyway, welcome back to the best bowls site on the 'net!

18.4.04 OPENING DAY - This year's Opening Day was a big success. Unfortunately, the rain came and curtailed the bowling, but at least we all managed some play! Honorary President Thom Brown raised the club flag, then Ladies President Babs Hume delivered the silver jack to open the green. Then two bowls were played, the other by President Sid Clarke - our lady president won!!! There are photos of the day on the Photos Page.

19.4.04 ANGUS/CITY UNDER 25 TRIAL & MATCHES - Three of our young bowlers have been selected to take part in the trials for this year's team - David Briggs, Steven McAulay & Vinnie Stewart. The trial is at Parkview BC (Brechin) on Sunday 2nd May 2004 at 10.30am. The matches take place on 9th (versus Perthshire at Perth West End BC), 16th (versus Grampian at Ellon BC) & 23rd (versus Bon Accord at Parkview BC) of May 2004 (all Sundays). Good luck to the lads for the trial & any subsequent matches - I'm sure they'll do the club proud, as usual...

20.4.04 HUNTER CUP - The selection committee has picked the teams to represent Craigie in this year's Hunter Cup. One rink will play in the first round on Tues 27th April and comprises Jim Irving (Lead), Russell Brannan (2nd), Alistair Murray (3rd) and Vince Stewart (Skip). Our other rink has a bye through to the second round on Thurs 29th April and is made up of John Wright Jnr (Lead), Frank Moore (2nd), Tony Hume (3rd) and Scott Brown (Skip). Good luck to both rinks in this year's competition - hopefully one of our teams can emulate our winning rink from 2 seasons ago - perhaps we might even get the 'Holy Grail' of an all Craigie final this year! When I get a note of the venues I'll let you all know...

20.4.04 EXTERNAL COMETITIONS PAGE - This page is now up and running - you can access it via the 'Bowls Page'. The two rinks for the Hunter Cup have been picked by the new selection committee - check out their selections, and the progress of our external competitors on this page...

20.4.04 SATURDAY FRIENDLY TEAMS - The Saturday Team page on the 'Bowls Page' is now up and running - this weeks teams are on now - check if you're playing on this page...

22.4.04 HUNTER CUP - I've got the venues for the first matches - Vince Stewart's rink is playing at Carnoustie WE on Tuesday and Scott Brown's rinks is playing at Wormit on Thurs. The start times for all the Hunter Cup matches is 6.30pm.

24.4.04 CITY OF DUNDEE TRIALS - Seven of our bowlers have been selected to take part in the trials this year. Four players are playing on Thursday 29th April at Broughty Castle BC at 6.30pm (Report 6pm) - Stephen Swann, Alistair Murray, Tony Hume & Vinnie Stewart (Jnr). Three others are reserves on Thursday - Scott Brown, Kenny Penman & Alan Brown. The second trial is on Sat 1st May at the same venue, this time starting at 10am (Report 9.30am). All reserves who are not committed to the Hunter Cup (also on Thurs night) are asked to report. I hope that our players who are reserves on Thursday, or playing in the Hunter Cup, will get a chance to show what they can do on the Saturday. Anyway, good to see a healthy representation of Craigie bowlers for this year's trials. Good luck to all involved...

26.4.04 CLUB COMPETITIONS - The draws for the Nominated Pairs and Standing Cup have been done and can be viewed here, on the Bowls Page.

28.4.04 HUNTER CUP - Unfortunately our first rink went down to a 17-19 defeat on Tuesday night. Apparently they all played 'rubbish' (I'm using web-friendly, non-expletive language there!). Surely this isn't going to be another one of THOSE years for the club - I hope not! Anyway, I'm sure we all hope that the other rink does a bit better tomorrow night at Wormit - good luck guys - hope you come back with a better result...

30.4.04 HUNTER CUP - Yet more bad news from this year's competition - our other rink was beaten 19-10 last night. Both rinks out in their first matches - let's hope that things can get better! The Angus League starts next Friday and hopefully we'll manage to do a bit better in that.

03.5.04 CITY OF DUNDEE TEAM - Only one of our trialists has been picked to play for the City of Dundee team against Highland BA this coming Saturday - congratulations to Vinnie Stewart on his first game for the 'City' - I'm sure I speak for all members in wishing Vinnie good luck for the match this weekend. Hopefully he can play well, keep his place in the team and gain his City 'badge'.

03.5.04 CLUB COMPETITIONS - The line up for the first final of the year is complete. Congrats to the six players in the Duncan Triples final, which is to be played on Tuesday night. Good luck to both teams.

04.5.04 DUNCAN TRIPLES - Congratulations to the first winners of the year in the Duncan Triples - Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr & Scott Brown. Well done guys - a well deserved victory in the first club tournament of the year. Also congrats to the runners up - Jim Simpson, Sid Clarke & Ali Strachan.

12.5.04 SBA CHAMIONSHIPS - We had mixed fortunes in the Senior Fours - only one rink won in the first round - congrats to Walter Hume's rink who won 12-6. Our other rink went down 10-13 in a close fought match - hard luck lads. Also, good luck to all our representatives in the SBA's tomorrow night. Hopefully I'll be in a position to bring you all news of our results on Friday - watch this space...

12.5.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - After a fine victory in the first league match the selectors have had some enforced changes imposed upon them for this week's home fixture against Lochee. The rinks for this week's match are as follows: RINK 1 - J.Irving, J.Simpson, J.Wright Jnr & A.Murray. RINK 2 - I.Ringsell, F.T.Moore, R.Brannan & S.Brown. RINK 3 - A.Sherman, A.Brown, T.Hume & J.McCartney. Here's hoping that the lads will give us another good result and maintain the excellent start to our campaign.

14.5.04 SBA CHAMIONSHIPS - We had a really successful night in the SBA's last night - all three of our matches resulted in victory. Alan Brown won 21-14 in the singles, Alec Sherman, Alistair Murray & Jim McCartney won 12-11 in the triples and Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr, Russell Brannan & Tony Hume were victorious in the fours competition. (Sorry, but I don't know the score of their match!) We now have a full compliment through to the second round on Thursday 20th - here's hoping that the good results continue.

15.5.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - Another good victory for Craigie last night against Lochee! The team was always ahead and coasted to a 50-46 win in the end. Great start to the league - two wins out of two. Well done to all the players - keep it up lads and we'll get up the divisions and back to our rightful place in the top league.

18.5.04 CLUB COMPETITIONS - The draw for the Falconer has been made and can now be viewed on the Bowls Page.

18.5.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - After two wins to start our league campaign the selectors have tinkered again with the teams because of some absentees. Here are the rinks for this week's away match at Balgay: RINK 1: Jim Irving, Jim Simpson, Russell Brannan & Vince Stewart; RINK 2: Ian Ringsell, Frank Moore, Tony Hume & Scott Brown; RINK 3: Alec Sherman, Alan Brown, Alistair Murray & Jim McCartney. Reserves this week are John Wright Jnr, Joe Mitchell & Stuart Jeans. Good luck for this week again lads - let's make it 3 out of 3!

18.5.04 SBA CHAMIONSHIPS - Good news again for our remaining Senior Fours Rink - they won again yesterday against Carnoustie, 20-10. Well done guys! Their next match in on Monday 24th May v's Muirhead @ Maryfield. We've still got the full compliment in the SBA's, here's the rest of the fixtures for this week (all matches on Thurs night at 6.30pm): SINGLES: Alan Brown - v's Kirriemuir @ Strathmartine, JUNIOR SINGLES: David Briggs - v's Abbey @ Monifieth, PAIRS: Robert Walker & Vince Stewart - v's Broughty Castle @ Monifieth, TRIPLES: Alec Sherman, Alistair Murray & Jim McCartney - v's Kirriemuir @ Muirhead, FOURS: Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr, Russell Brannan & Tony Hume - v's Canmore @ Arbroath. Good luck to all... Ayr here we come!

24.5.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - Another good win for the team on Friday! This time all three rinks were up in a crushing 59-29 win over Balgay. This result has consolidated our position at the top of Division 3 - I've made up our own page where you can view the league table - mainly because the tables on the Angus website haven't been kept up to date. This Friday's match is at home against Hillcrest - let's hope for more of the same. I'll bring you this week's team news tomorrow, once the selection

24.5.04 SBA CHAMIONSHIPS - Not such good news in the SBA's this week - only David Briggs and our Fours rink made it through to the next round. They are playing again this Thursday - David is playing against the junior representitive from Brechin @ Letham BC. Our Fours, consisting of Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr, Russell Brannan & Tony Hume are playing the rink from Hope Paton @ Newgate BC. John Wright is also still going strong in the SBA Mixed Pairs with Kath (The missus!) - they won last week and are playing in the next round tomorrow against Montrose @ Carnoustie BC. Good luck everybody still involved...

29.5.04 STANDING CUP - Tomorrow (Sunday) sees the semi-finals and final of this year's Standing Cup taking place during the afternoon. Good luck to all the players involved. If you're not playing why not go along, support the teams and relax in the club - hopefully the weather will be kind and we'll have a great day - I'll be there to watch and get some photo's for the site. I'll report the results on Monday.

29.5.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - Another fine win for the team against Hillcrest last night. That makes four wins on the trot - a great start to the league campaign - well played again lads! No results in today's Courier - hopefully they'll be in on Monday, then I'll be able to get the Angus League table updated. Watch this space...

29.5.04 SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIPS - Great news from this weeks matches in the SBA's! Our Mixed Pair of John and Kath Wright won on Tuesday and are through to the area semi-finals. David Briggs, in the Junior Singles, and our Fours rink (Jim Irving, John Wright, Russell Brannan & Tony Hume) also won and are through to the semi-finals too. Congratulations to all players - only two more wins and you're off to Ayr! Unfortunately, our Senior Fours rinks lost on Monday, but did well to win a few matches - hard luck guys... The Mixed Pairs Semi Finals are on Tuesday - John and Kath are playing the pair from Brechin @ Newgate BC. David and our Fours are playing on Thurday - David v's Montrose @ Lochlands BC, the Fours v's Brechin @ Abbey BC. All matches start at 6.30pm.

30.5.04 STANDING CUP - The semi-finals and final were played this afternoon. The weather gods smiled on the bowlers today and provided a scorcher - glorious bowling conditions! The final was between Scott Brown's rink and Alistair Murray's rink and the game matched the weather - it was a cracker - Alistair's four stormed ahead to lead 10-1 after 6 ends, but then a sterling fightback saw Scott's team claw their way back into the match and the teams went into the last end tied at 11-11. Scott's rink gave away the jack in the last end and won it, counting 3 shots for victory. Congratulations to this year's winners Robert Walker, Frank Moore, Russell Brannan and Scott Brown.

31.5.04 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - Brilliant news for those who like to watch bowls on the telly! I have read in the 'World of Bowls' section of a certain Sunday tabloid newspaper that this year's World Championships (at Ayr in July) are to be shown live on the Eurosport satellite channel. The article also states that highlights will be shown on BBC Scotland. Great news for all of us that like to watch the worlds best players in action, and hopefully it might raise the profile of the game amongst yougsters - maybe there might be an increase in the junior ranks as a result of some decent TV coverage for once! Here's hoping the coverage is plentiful and worth watching...

31.5.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - The results of Friday's matches were in today's Courier and I've updated the Angus League page accordingly. Some of you may notice that our next match on Friday is 'probably' a league championship decider against Longforgan - a win in this match will see us go 4 points ahead at the top of the league with a vastly superior shots difference and only 3 matches left to play!!! Here's hoping that the team can keep up the 100% record and move us to within touching distance of the league title and promotion. This crucial match is at home, which should help the team to play at their best - any members not playing on Friday please get along to the club and support the lads. (Unfortunately, I'll not be there due to other commitments...) The selectors will be picking the team tomorrow night and I'll bring you the team news as soon as I have it... Again, well played lads, and good luck for Friday!

JUNE

01.6.04 ANGUS CHAMPIONSHIPS - The selection committee have also picked our players to represent Craigie in the Angus Championships for this year, as follows: CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Alan Brown (Tues 15th June v Hillcrest @ Baxter Park), SINGLES - Vince Stewart (Tues 15th June v Carnoustie @ Broughty Castle), JUNIOR SINGLES - David Briggs (Tues 22nd June v Longforgan @ ??? - Sorry! Don't have a venue yet!), PAIRS - Kenny Penman & Jim Thomson (Tues 15th June v Brechin @ Abbey), TRIPLES - Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr & Scott Brown (Tues 15th June v Muirhead @ Longforgan), FOURS - Jim Simpson, Joe Mitchell, Ali Strachan & Stephen Swann (Tues 15th June v Strathmartine @ Muirhead), SENIOR SINGLES - Joe Swan (Tues 15th June v Barnhill @ Broughty Castle), SENIOR PAIRS - Fred Simpson & Walter Hume (Tues 15th June v Hillcrest @ Lochee) and finally the SENIOR FOURS - Jim Fernie, Bert Murray, Jim Penman & George Duncan (Tues 15th June v Maryfield @ Baxter Park). All matches start at 6.30pm. Phew! I've got keyboard cramp now!!! Good luck as always to all players - here's hoping for more good results...

01.6.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - The selection committee have had to re-jig the team again for this week as a few of the regulars are away with the touring team this weekend! We still have a strong team out though, here's the rinks for the match v's Longforgan on Friday: RINK 1 - Ian Ringsell, Jim Irving, Joe Mitchell & Vince Stewart, RINK 2 - Vinnie Stewart, Frank Moore, John Wright Jnr & Scott Brown, RINK 3 - Stuart Jeans, Alan Brown, Alec Sherman & Alistair Murray. Reserves this week are Robert Walker & Danny Hall. Good luck for the game lads - here's hoping for 5 wins on the spin... PS. Pay no attention to the sheet up in the club - we have a shots difference of +96 (not +94)- trust me on this one!!!

02.6.04 SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIPS - Another good result in the SBA Mixed Pairs last night - John & Kath Wright won their semi-final, beating Brechin 14-13 - great stuff! Letham beat Fairfield 16-15 in the other semi-final so it's Craigie v Letham in the area final. No information on the place and date for the final in today's paper - I'll let you know as soon as I have the details. Well done to John and Kath for another fine result.

04.6.04 SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIPS - Mixed news from last night's SBA semi-finals - our Fours triumphed 16-7 against Brechin, but David Briggs went down 21-16 against Montrose. Great result for the Fours and commiserations to David. We now have two area finals to look forward to next week - John & Kath Wright play aginst Letham in the Mixed Pairs final on Tuesday @ Carnoustie West End BC, and Jim Irving, John (AGAIN!), Russell Brannan & Tony Hume play against Balgay in their final on Thursday @ Broughty BC. Both matches start at 6.30pm. Let's hope both results go our way again - good luck to all our bowlers, especially John, who's got two chances to get to Ayr this year!!!

05.6.04 CLUB HONOURS - At last I've managed to compile what I hope is a definitive list of all the external honours that the club has won over the years. You can see it on the External Competitions Page, accessed via the History & Honours Page or, easier still, just click HERE.

05.6.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - Great news again! The team won 56-41 against nearest challengers Longforgan last night - all three rinks were up in a fine all round display. The 100% record this season stretches on... Our lead at the top of the table is now 4 points, with only three games left to play, and our fantastic shots difference of +111 should count as an extra point as it's well ahead of the next best. Congrats to all who played last night - I'm told that everyone played well. Even better news from last night's other games is that the matches resulted in wins for the bottom three clubs, so we've gained more ground on the chasing pack! Special mention to Hillcrest who won their first match of the league season. (Nobody would wish the dreaded 'Grannie' on any bowlers!) We don't have a match next week, but I still intend to update the table next Saturday to keep you all informed of the other results. Our next fixture is against Hope Paton, at home, on 18th June - hopefully I'll have another win to report then!

09.6.04 SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIPS – Fantastic news from last night’s SBA District Mixed Pairs Final – John & Kath Wright won 16-13. Huge congratulations to both – after all, it’s only the third time in the history of Craigie BC that we’ve won a district title!!! (I got the new ‘External Honours’ page up and running just in time for a new addition to the list!) They’ll be off to Aberdeen, and hopefully Paisley later this year for the final stages of the Scottish Championships. Again, well done John & Kath – I’m sure I speak for everyone at Craigie in saying that we’re all extremely proud of your achievement. Click HERE so see a pic of our champs. Let’s hope that our rink has the same success tomorrow night in their final at Broughty – good luck to Jim, John, Russell and Tony.

11.6.04 SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIPS - Well, what can I say - Craigie's season is getting better and better! When I started this website a few months ago I never thought that I'd be writing about arguably the most historic week's bowling in the club's history! Last night, at a packed Broughty BC, our rink, comprising Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr, Russell Brannan and Tony Hume won the SBA District Fours Title, beating a rink from Balgay 21-6. After going 6-0 up in just 3 ends the team never looked back and romped home with an end to spare. Congratulations to all four, and especially to John, who's won two district titles this week - a feat that's never been done before at Craigie, and I doubt will ever be done again! See photos of the Fours final and pics of both winning teams via the Photos Page, or just click HERE to see the Mixed Pairs and HERE for the Fours. Well done to all the players - fantastic stuff! Let's hope that we can keep the success going in this year's Angus and City of Dundee Championships...

12.6.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - The Angus League Page has been updated with last night's results. Without playing a match this week we've moved to within touching distance of the league title and promotion as all the results went exactly as we hoped!!! The other clubs are still beating each other, with the bottom three clubs all winning again this week. We now only need one more point to clinch the league - a win in this week's match at home to Hope Paton will be enough, and continue Craigie's fine start to the season. It won't be easy to get a victory in any of our last three matches though, as ALL the eight other teams can still finish second and get promotion themselves. Once again, I encourage all members who're not in the team to get along to the club and support the lads on Friday - your support if very much appreciated by all the players.

16.6.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - The team has been picked for this week’s potential league clinching home match against Hope Paton on Friday. The three rinks are as follows: RINK 1: I.Ringsell, J.Irving, J.Mitchell & V.Stewart; RINK 2: R.Walker, F.T.Moore, J.Wright Jnr & S.Brown; RINK 3: S.Jeans, A.Brown, A.Sherman & A.Murray. Reserves this week are R.Brannan, T.Hume & J.McCartney. Good luck to all the players – let’s hope that our 100% record is still intact after the match and we can then celebrate winning the league title with two weeks to spare! Again, all support is much appreciated so please get along to the club and cheer on the team if you’re not playing – I’ll see you all there…

16.6.04 ANGUS CHAMPIONSHIPS - Not great news from last night’s 1st round matches - we only had two wins – Vince Stewart won 21-17 in the Singles and our Triples team (Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr and Scott Brown) won 19-9. All our other matches were lost, although most were close affairs – Alan Brown was at 16-16, but then lost 5 shots to go down 21-16 in the Champion of Champions, and in the Pairs Kenny Penman and Jim Thomson went into their last end tied at 17-17, only to lose one shot and go out by the narrowest of margins 18-17. Well done and good luck in the next round to our winners from last night, David Briggs in the Junior Singles and Walter Hume & Fred Simpson in the Senior Pairs who start their campaigns next week. I’ll bring you the venues for the 2nd round matches as soon as I have them.

19.6.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - We suffered our first defeat of the season last night when the team went down 37-47 to Hope Paton. The league title is still very much in our own hands and our shots difference is still well ahead of the next best so not too much damage done, although it would have been nice to go through the whole league campaign unbeaten. Let's hope that the team can win next week against Broughty Castle - it's another home game so that should help. Lochee have now moved clear in second place but they've played one match more than most of the other contenders, so it's still too close to call for the second promotion spot - it could well be that the title and second place are decided on shots difference!

23.6.04 CITY OF DUNDEE JNR SINGLES - Barry Forbes is representing Craigie in the first round of the 'City' Junior Singles next week - the match is against Longforgan @ Fairfield BC on Thurs 1st July and starts at 6.15pm. Good Luck to Barry - hopefully he'll play well and get through to the next round.

23.6.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - The selection committee have picked the team for this week's vital home match against Broughty Castle, as follows: RINK 1 - Ian Ringsell, Jim Irving, Joe Mitchell & Vince Stewart; RINK 2 - John Wright Jnr, Russell Brannan, Tony Hume & Scott Brown; RINK 3 - Alec Sherman, Alan Brown, Alistair Murray & Jim McCartney. Reserves this week are Jim Simpson, Frank Moore, Stuart Jeans & Robert Walker. Here's hoping for a better performance and result than last week's shock defeat. Again, if you can get along to the club and support the team please do so - your support is very much appreciated.

23.6.04 VIC CUP - The Vic Cup draw is now on The Bowls Page - check out who you've been drawn against in our 'best of 3 sets' singles competition.

23.6.04 ANGUS CHAMPIONSHIPS - Good news from last night's second round matches - all our matches were won: Vince Stewart won 21-7 in the Singles, Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr & Scott Brown won 12-5 in the Triples, David Briggs won 21-18 in the Junior Singles and Fred Simpson & Walter Hume won 13-12 in the Senior Pairs. Well done to all - I'll bring you the fixtures and venues for the next round as soon as I have the details...

26.6.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - DIVISION 3 CHAMPIONS!!! After last week's shock defeat the selectors made some changes and the team strode majestically to the Third Division Title last night with a crushing 71-25 win over Broughty Castle - congratulations to all who played in this year's Angus League campaign! Our final match in this year's competition is away against Parkview next week - this match is still important as it will have a direct bearing on who gets second place and the other promotion slot - Parkview are currently in second, but only on shots difference from Lochee. Lochee's final match is also away, against Hope Paton, who still have a slim chance of the runner's up place should some results go their way by big margins. Well done again to our team - Craigie's season gets better all the time!

29.6.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - The selectors have announced the team for this week's final league match (away against Parkview) of the season, as follows: RINK 1 - Ian Ringsell, Frank Moore, J.Mitchell & Vince Stewart; RINK 2 - John Wright Jnr, Russell Brannan, Tony Hume & Scott Brown; RINK 3 - Jim Simpson, Alan Brown, Alistair Murray & Jim McCartney. Reserves for this week are Stuart Jeans & Vinnie Stewart. Good luck to the team for the match - here's hoping we can finish off a great league season on a winning note...

30.6.04 ANGUS CHAMPIONSHIPS - More good results from last night’s third round matches as we recorded 3 wins out of 4. In the Singles Vince Stewart won 21-13, our Triples team (Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr & Scott Brown won 16-10 and Walter Hume & Fred Simpson won 21-7 in the Senior Pairs. Unfortunately, David Briggs lost 9-21 in the Junior Singles. Congrats to our winners and hopefully they’ll all keep it going in the next round, which I believe is the Semi-Finals - I’ll bring you the dates and venues for the next matches as soon as I know the details...

JULY

04.7.04 ANGUS LEAGUE - The final round of matches were played on Friday night and our team drew 43-43 with Parkview. Even with the title already in the bag the selectors still sent out a strong team as our result would have a direct bearing on who got the other promotion slot. As it turned out our draw, coupled with a 5 shot victory for Lochee, meant that it was Lochee who finished in the runner up place and gained promotion to the second division with us - congrats to Lochee. Well done to all who played in an excellent Angus League campaign this year - hopefully we can do the same next year in the second division, although the competition is bound to get tougher!!!

04.7.04 CITY OF DUNDEE JUNIOR SINGLES - Barry Forbes won his first round match 21-14 and is through to the second round, which I believe is on Monday 5th July. Well done Barry, I'll bring you all the venue for his next match once I know the details...

06.7.04 UNDER 35'S - Congratulations to Vinnie Stewart on winning the club Under 35's singles tonight. Unfortunately, I didn't know the final was being played so I didn't get any photos of the match!!! Never mind! Well done again to Vinnie and commiserations to runner up Barry Forbes.

06.7.04 CITY OF DUNDEE JUNIOR SINGLES - Unfortunately Barry lost his quarter final 14-21 last night - hard luck! Still on to the 'big' City Championships now - here's hoping for more success for Craigie in those..

07.7.04 ANGUS CHAMPIONSHIPS – Mixed results from last night’s semi-finals for Craigie. On the plus side our Triple (Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr & Scott Brown) won 14-13 after picking up a four in the last end! Unfortunately, they were our only winners last night with Vince Stewart losing by the narrowest of margins (20-21) in the singles and Walter Hume & Fred Simpson going down 9-24 in the Senior Pairs – hard luck to those three. Good luck to our Triple for the final on Friday night – it’s at Kirriemuir BC and starts at 6.30pm. I’ll be going up with the lads, camera at the ready, to record the match events – hopefully they can do the business and bring yet more honours to the club this year…

09.7.04 ANGUS TOP TEN - Our first match in this year's Top Ten is next Tuesday (13th July). It's at home against Baxter Park BC, something of a local derby! The selection committee have been hard at work and picked the following team to represent the club: SINGLES - Vince Stewart, PAIRS - Vinnie Stewart & Jim McCartney, TRIPLES - Fred Simpson, Stephen Swann & Scott Brown, FOURS - Alan Brown, Ali Strachan, Russell Brannan & Tony Hume. Reserves are Jim Irving, Jim Simpson, Alistair Murray, Walter Hume, Joe Mitchell & Frank Moore. Good luck to the team...

09.7.04 UNDER 26'S & ALLAN PAIRS - The draws for both these competitions have been made and can be viewed via 'The Bowls Page' on the site...

11.7.04 ANGUS CHAMPIONSHIPS - Our season is still getting better! Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr and Scott Brown won the Angus Triples final, beating Canmore 14-13 at Kirriemuir BC on Friday night - huge congrats to the lads!

14.7.04 ANGUS TOP TEN – The team had a good win in the first round against Baxter Park last night. We won through on shots difference, after both teams had won two matches. For the record our winners on the night were Vince Stewart in the singles and our four, comprising Alan Brown, Ali Strachan, Russell Brannan & Tony Hume. The final result was Craigie 4 (59), Baxter Park 4 (52). Here’s hoping the team can get another good result next week in the second round.

14.7.04 SBA MIXED TRIPLES – John & Kath Wright ventured north to Aberdeen on Sunday to compete in a play off against the district 3 winners. Unfortunately, things didn’t go well and they lost the match to some inspired bowling from the opposition skip. Congratulations are still in order though, as it’s been a long time since we’ve had district champions and it’s been a great achievement to reach this stage of the Scottish Championships – well done to John & Kath.

17.7.04 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - The Championship Final was played last night and was a great match. Vinnie Stewart and Scott Brown contested the final, with Vinnie winning 21-15. Commiserations to Scott and huge congratulations to Vinnie on winning his first title.

21.7.04 ANGUS TOP TEN - Another good victory for the team against Carnoustie WE last night - we won 5-3 and are now in the quarter finals on Thursday 19th August. It's another home game apparently, so lets all get up to the club and cheers the boys on!

31.7.04 NOMINATED PAIRS - Congratulations to Vince Stewart and Robert Walker on retaining the club pairs title last week. The final featured the same two pairs as last year, with Walter Hume and Fred Simpson finishing as runners up again. I couldn't make it to the final itself, but I'm informed that it was a good close match that went right down to the last end. Well done to all invloved.

31.7.04 WEBMASTER APOLOGIES - Sorry about the lack of updates for the last week or so bowlers - I've been getting treatment and recovering from a rather serious football injury. (I've retired now - getting too old for all that running around - think I'll just stick to bowls from now on!)

AUGUST

05.8.04 ANGUS TOP TEN - The selectors have picked the team for our quarter final against Fairfield BC on 19th August, as follows: SINGLES - Vince Stewart, PAIRS - Fred Simpson & Jim McCartney, TRIPLES - Jim Irving, John Wright Jnr & Scott Brown, FOURS - Alan Brown, Ali Strachan, Russell Brannan & Tony Hume. Reserves for the match are Frank Moore, Alistair Murray, Walter Hume & Joe Mitchell. It's another home tie so let's all get up to the club and support the team.

18.8.04 CITY OF DUNDEE CHAMPIONSHIPS - With the finals due to be played on Friday this week we only have one chance of glory this year, but it's in the best final of the lot - Vinnie Stewart has progressed through to the final of the Champion of Champions. Congratulations to Vinnie for getting this far - let's hope he can now go on to lift the big prize (it would be the first time our champ has won this prestigious title since 1960, which says it all really). On behalf of all website readers and members may I wish Vinnie good luck for the final. Unfortunatelly, I won't be able to get to the finals, but I hope to have someone there taking pics for the website on my behalf, so hopefully we'll have some good action shots of the match here on the site next week.

18.8.04 SBA CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS - Congratulations go out to our rink who qualified to go to Ayr - the lads won their first two matches but were beaten in the quarter finals by the eventual winners. Well done to Jim, John, Russell and Tony - even though they lost in the 1/4's it's still been a great achievement to get as far as they did. You've done the club proud lads - here's to more of the same next season...

19.8.04 ANGUS TOP TEN - Another great result for the team in tonight's quarter final - an 8-0 victory against Fairfield. The team now moves into the semi-finals on Sunday 22nd. Well done to all those who played well tonight. I'll bring you news of who the opposition is and the venue when I get it.

23.8.04 ANGUS TOP TEN - Another great result for the team in the semi-finals yesterday! The team defeated Monifieth on shots difference (68-61) after the match score was tied at 4-4. The team is now through to the final at Kirriemuir BC next Sunday at 2.30pm where the opponents will be the team from Newgate. Hopefully the lads can keep up their good form and bring the Angus Top Ten title back to Craigie for the first time in the club's history.

23.8.04 CITY OF DUNDEE CHAMPIONSHIPS - Unfortunately, Vinnie lost in the final of the Champion of Champions on Friday night, 15-21. It was still a great run for Vinnie to reach the final - well done to our club champ!

SEPTEMBER

03.9.04 BLAIRGOWRIE INVITATION FOURS - Yes, before anyone starts - I'm putting this on the site purely out of self indulgence (not had many mentions on the site as I've had a particularly poor season)! Congratulations to Alan Brown, Frank Moore, 'The Webmaster' and Tony Hume for winning the Blairgowrie Invitation Fours tournament last Saturday. The team qualified from the group stages after winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 1 match. The semi-final was a close 6-4 win, followed by a convincing 8-2 win in the final. I can personally vouch that a good time was had by all throughout the day - big thanks to all at 'Blair' for another excellent day's bowling - hopefully we'll be able to retain the trophy next year!

03.9.04 FALCONER FINAL - This final was also played tonight. Vince Stewart and John Wright Jnr fought out this match with Vince winning 21-3. Congratulations to Vince on winning the trophy for the fourth time (3 in-a-row) and joining the top of the all time Falconer winners list in this website's own 'Hall of Fame'. (A fantastic achievement, but more work for the 'webmaster' - guess I better get the Hall of Fame updated now too - only joking - great stuff!!!)

03.9.04 UNDER 26 FINAL - The final was played tonight and was another classic (like last year)! Vinnie Stewart and Stephen McAulay contested the final with Steve winning 21-20. Congratulations to Steve on winning his first Craigie Singles title.

03.9.04 ANGUS TOP TEN - Unfortunately, the final was rained off last week so our lads will need to make a return trip to Kirrie this Sunday (5th) instead. Again, the match is due to start at 2.30pm and there is a supporters bus going. I won't be able to make it this week, due to work commitments, but I've managed to get Alistair Murray roped in to take some 'action shots' of the final for me. Hopefully I'll have cause to publish the pics on the site next week! Good luck to the team from all...

07.9.04 WILLIE KYDD TRIPLES - The first of our 'end of season' tournaments was played on Saturday. This year's winners were Walter Hume, Joe Mitchell and Jim Mackie - congratulations to all three, especially Walter who now makes his first entry onto the website 'Hall of Fame' with 3 wins in this competition, in '98, '00 and '04.

CLOSE SEASON

30.12.04 UPDATE & SEASON'S GREETINGS - Hello Craigie members and bowlers everywhere! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all. As you have no doubt noticed, I've been away for 3 months. Several reasons contributed to this, not least the end of the outdoor season! I have now had the time to update the website with the rest of the end-of-season competitions. Congratulations go to Mick McGuigan & Joe Mitchell for winning the Allan Pairs, beating Frank Moore & Ian Hume in the final. Mick and Joe were always ahead during the match and eventually won 13-6. Congratulations also to Russell Brannan for winning the Vic Cup, defeating Tony Hume by 2 sets to 1 in a highly entertaining final. The Two Bowl Pairs competition was won by Frank Moore and Jack Shepherd, who defeated Joan & Jack Reilly in the final. The last tournament of the season, the Frank Mullen Triples, was won by Jim Smith (F), Bill Mitchell & Russell Brannan who defeated Fred Simpson, Babs Hume & Walter Hume in the final. Unfortunately, our team lost in the final of the Angus Top Ten but the 2004 season was still arguably the best in the history of Craigie - here's hoping for another great season next year. Again, huge congratulations to all the winners in 2004 - I think Craigie can look forward to 2005 with much excitement and anticipation.

31.01.05 FIXTURES 2005 - It's 2005 and the new season is but 11 weeks away! Just in is the new fixture list for this season - you can find it via The Bowls Page as usual. The list is still basic and all the external competitions will be added in time, but all the friendly and internal fixtures, deadlines etc. are there... NOW!
